We all need music that really gets your legs pumping, beats to keep you spinning down those hills, and cutting lines through Trafik (LoL). Some of L.A.’s top labels contributed to the TL&R, creating a movie that’s stacked with hits from beginning to end featuring Silversun Pickups, Hot Hot Heat, Minus The Bear, Santogold, Darker My Love, Futurecop!, Sea Wolf, Eulogies, Willowz, and tons more.
Silverlake based Dangerbird Records was a major sponsor, working with us to create a soundtrack that matches the fast-paced action of fixed gear riding with the unique vibe that defines Los Angeles. Also onboard the production was Dim Mak Records, you know Steve Aoki knows what’s wheelie gewd. Adding to the eclectic mix were I Heart Comix and Anticon, who were down to rep L.A. and fixed gear culture.
But don’t sleep on hip-hop. When I ride, it’s mostly what is pumping through my lines in the street. L.A. street poet BAMBU threw down some tracks, along with our homeboy INTUITION. The Bay is also represented by CROWN CITY ROCKERS, and from the SWTBRDS label DaVinici and StreetMedia. East Coast MC, Billy Drease Williams rounds it out with some NY flavor.
Some of our fans posted a couple soundtrack mixes on Soundcloud, check them out below. If you think you can do better, send us a link to your remix and if we like it we’ll send you a TRAFIK prize bag full of goodies. For a full soundtrack listing and to download tracks go to our MEDIA page on www.toliveandrideinla.com

Our friends over at THEME magazine recently featured a great article about To Live & Ride in L.A. in their last issue. THEME is a really slick arts and lifestyle magazine out of NYC, we are glad they turned their focus on what is happening on the West Coast and what’s wheelie gewd with Fixed Gear Culture. We want to thank Theme for this Article. It’s very few and far between you really get to see what is happening on the streets of LA. This is one of our main goals, telling ya’ll what it is really like out here in So Cal. Thanks for your support!

Every Friday, we’ll be posting videos, interviews, and local show info on Artists featured on the soundtrack for “To Live and Ride in LA“.
This way you can keep update with some the best local and global talent, and in my opinion, some of the best music to ride to…
First up, Crown City Rockers. Crown City Rockers are a five-member hip hop band from Oakland, California, by way of Boston, Massachusetts and Pasadena. Formerly known as Mission:, they play old school inflected hip hop music with live instrumentation (similar to other hip hop groups like: Gym Class Heroes, The Roots, N.E.R.D, and Stetsasonic). Super fresh, bringing back the pure hip-hop, makes me want to start poppin and lockin. Really smooth to ride to and keeps you moving at that fast pace. Great party rocking music, and while I couldn’t find any tour dates coming up in LA, be sure to check out their site for up to date info.

One of the new posts you will be seeing every Wednesday, will be Rider updates. What have they been up too? What are they doing since filming “To Live & Ride in LA“? Since this is the first week and it coincides with a Bi-weekly night this Saturday, that some of the riders put on, we thought we would do a little promoting for them. Sound.Wavs is the brain child of Anthony and Sean. A collective of DJ’s, beat makers, Emcees, and friends. They started last year as a weekly night at the Hyperion Tavern, every Thursday. Due to some disputes and the bar losing it’s live performance license, the night went on hiatus. It came with back with a vengeance. Sound.Wavs at The Ronin Gallery has become the one of the fastest growing underground nights in Los Angeles. It’s an amazing party with amazing performances from some of the best artists LA has to offer. With a rotating line up every two weeks, the guys are bringing you the best they can book. This Saturday is the fourth installment, and the Crew bought a new sound system and have some insane talent coming through this week. Swag. Look for more detailed interviews with both Sean and Anthony in the weeks ahead.

Glad to have Banksy back in town. He’s had some pieces up in the Melrose/Hollywood area that have literally been cut off the walls. Hope these last longer. See more pics HERE.

TRAFIK is leading a ride to the timely art exhibit DREAMS DEFERRED: Artists Respond To Immigration Reform co-curated by our very own Tim Jieh. This show features some of L.A.’s illest street artists including Eyeone, Shepard Fairey, Ernesto Yerena Montejeno, O.G. Slick, Patrick Martinez, Kofie, Swank, Cache, Shark Toof and more! With the vote in congress coming this week for the Dream Act, its great to see all these artists coming together to support the call for immigration reform.
The ride to the opening reception for this art exhibit will start at UCLA, meet up with riders at LACC and then on down to the show. I hear many of the artists will be there and there’s free wine too!

When you become familiar with your route you start to notice repeating characteristics that stick out in your mind. For me it’s a few things, the Day Laborors at the hardware store, the Nurses smoking cigarettes at Kaiser/Childrens Hospital, and then i’m fianlly greeted by that mural above. A mural Cache and Toons did behind the shop. The mural was painted when Orange 20 took over the furniture store on the corner. I’m very blessed to be surround with such grand murals while i’m at work.
When it comes to the familiar, Cache’s murals are something that are familiar to a lot of cyclists that commute around Los Angeles and Downtown LA. Between Orange 20 and downtown there are countless Murals that are painted by Cache and his Friends. Scenes that have subtle politcal undertones often accompanied by EyerOne and Colorful landscapes with fellow artists such as Kofie. One of the reason Cache stuck out in my mind was seeing a reoccurring theme of cycling. The piece on Sunset before Alvarado sticks out in my mind.

Cache is well traveled recently visiting places such as Mexico City and Guatemala Painting with local artists. During his travels, he and his wonderful girfriend Erin have done acts of philanthropy such as donating bicycles to a family in Guatemala (pictured below).

He also has had his share of art shows, displaying works along side artists like, Mear One, Shepherd Fairy, David Flores, Will Manville (another personal favorite), and Two Rabbits Studios.

His murals are a apart of the bicycle community just as much as the sharrows on the streets of LA. What do you encounter on your route that sticks out in your mind?
