Music to Ride to…

We all need music that really gets your legs pumping, beats to keep you spinning down those hills, and cutting lines through Trafik (LoL). Some of L.A.’s top labels contributed to the TL&R, creating a movie that’s stacked with hits from beginning to end featuring Silversun Pickups, Hot Hot Heat, Minus The Bear, Santogold, Darker My Love, Futurecop!, Sea Wolf, Eulogies, Willowz, and tons more.

Silverlake based Dangerbird Records was a major sponsor, working with us to create a soundtrack that matches the fast-paced action of fixed gear riding with the unique vibe that defines Los Angeles. Also onboard the production was Dim Mak Records, you know Steve Aoki knows what’s wheelie gewd. Adding to the eclectic mix were I Heart Comix and Anticon, who were down to rep L.A. and fixed gear culture.

But don’t sleep on hip-hop. When I ride, it’s mostly what is pumping through my lines in the street. L.A. street poet BAMBU threw down some tracks, along with our homeboy INTUITION. The Bay is also represented by CROWN CITY ROCKERS, and from the SWTBRDS label DaVinici and StreetMedia. East Coast MC, Billy Drease Williams rounds it out with some NY flavor.

Some of our fans posted a couple soundtrack mixes on Soundcloud, check them out below. If you think you can do better, send us a link to your remix and if we like it we’ll send you a TRAFIK prize bag full of goodies. For a full soundtrack listing and to download tracks go to our MEDIA page on www.toliveandrideinla.com

Another sick Artist to ride to, Intuition. I ruined these songs for you and the follow up to it, are such a great albums and concepts. Heavy Rotation at my house. Fake collaborations, so good. “Girls like me“, is pretty dope too, nice rhymes, solid beats. I would love to go see my man at a show, but I don’t see any dates coming up. Keep your eyes peeled here and be sure to go cop one of Intuitions albums, or grab the the TL&R DVD when it drops on 6/21/11!

Homeboy’s FB Page, go like it!

Every Friday, we’ll be posting videos, interviews, and local show info on Artists featured on the soundtrack for “To Live and Ride in LA“.
This way you can keep update with some the best local and global talent, and in my opinion, some of the best music to ride to…

First up, Crown City Rockers. Crown City Rockers are a five-member hip hop band from Oakland, California, by way of Boston, Massachusetts and Pasadena. Formerly known as Mission:, they play old school inflected hip hop music with live instrumentation (similar to other hip hop groups like: Gym Class Heroes, The Roots, N.E.R.D, and Stetsasonic). Super fresh, bringing back the pure hip-hop, makes me want to start poppin and lockin. Really smooth to ride to and keeps you moving at that fast pace. Great party rocking music, and while I couldn’t find any tour dates coming up in LA, be sure to check out their site for up to date info.

TRAFIK is proud to have Dangerbird Records as a sponsor and collaborator on “To Live & Ride in L.A”. Located in Silverlake, Dangerbird has created a unique sound that inspires us to ride through the streets of L.A. blasting their music from our Boom Botix speakers. The film features some of their top artists: Silversun Pickups, Hot Hot Heat, Minus the Bear (personal fav), Bad Veins, Darker My Love, Dappled Cities, Eulogies and many more. Swag. Great music to ride to.

We also want to mention the Pablove Foundation, a non-profit formed by the owner of Dangerbird that helps fight childhood cancer. It’s a great organization that you should check out, especially if you’re a cyclist.

If you want top see the full soundtrack to the movie, go over to our MEDIA page and support our sponsor by downloading some tracks.
Then get out on those roads and shred to some awesome tunes!

Check back every Thursday for more sponsor highlights. Without our Proud Sponsors we would have not been able to bring this film to you. Thanks for your continued support!

One featured musical artist on To Live & Ride in L.A.’s soundtrack is DAVINCI. We were privileged to be exposed to this westcoast mc who’s bringing back the raw lyrical styles and story telling of hip hop’s golden years. TL&R cinematographer and TRAFIK collaborator Marcus Ubungen has been working with DAVINCI and SWEETBREADS for years now and they just released a new music video for a hot new track Concrete Jungle Juice off the new album (download it, its free!). And the video editor for this cut also cut the new TL&R trailer that’s soon to be releasing too! Shout out to Marcus, Ralph, Al Jieh, DaVinci, Ammbush! Great work!

Hey everyone,
I’m in the editing stages of my new movie about L.A.’s fixed gear bike community called To Live and Ride in L.A. And right now I’m looking for local music to include in the film. This is an opportunity for local L.A. musicians to have a track featured in a movie that will be seen by cycling enthusiasts around the world.

If you have some music for me to hear, comment to this blog post with links to your url where we can stream your music. I will personally be going through and listening to each posting and I will contact you if I find something that fits in my film. Thanks for all the support L.A.!
