Downtown LA messengers through the hardest race every year for the BFF and this one is no different. Starting at Griffith Park Observatory, the race is a grueling check point race that reference scenes in the movie, ‘Terminator.’ Last year Hern won this race (despite not having all the manifests.) This years grand prize is a 725 Leader frame set as well as a package from us here at Trafik Pictures! The race is caped at 54 racers so be there on time and be ready for some pain in this post hipster future!

From the beginning, Trafik Pictures have been a huge supporter of Downtown LA messengers. And it’s because they always make us feel welcome. They were kind enough to include us a sponsor for their upcoming alley cat, Terminator. You’ll see us there for sure. This race is Ace’s personal favorite. Maybe he’ll take it this year. (yeah, right).

It was a hot and hazy Sunday when 14 teams of 4 riders each took off from Downtown Union station, racing to Muscle Beach in Venice. Nothing beats a summer alley-cat, and this shaped up to be a good one. This is what weekends are for. The winning team was not a surprise, the boys representing Wolfpack (Fabian Vasques,Hern, Shirtless Jon B, Ricardo Mejia) crossed the line 1st. See all the pics on TRAFIK’s FLICKR.
Local favorite Kustown Gorilla Squad has their plans for a podium finish derailed by LAPD. The team was pulled over right in DTLA for running a red and one of the riders was taken away in cuffs. WTF! Don’t worry homie, you’ll be out soon. The Team had a GO PRO camera running so we got all the action on tape! Stayed Tuned.
Racing with your friends on a summer weekend is what makes riding great. Every week in LA there is at least one race going on. But what about the rest of the world? We want to hear about races in your city too. Post up pics and info on our Facebook Wall or hit us with the details at info@TRAFIKLA.com. Ride Safe!

One half of the two part duo that comprises TOLA!, Sean Martin has been on top of his game for quite some time now. From throwing some of the best organized events and hardest street races in Los Angeles consistently year after year, to being one of the founding members of Sound.Wavs (best doorman ever) and Team Captain of the Chubby Boob bike team (our good friends) Sean is really poised to Takeover LA (no pun intended). He will be hosting Saturday’s event for ya’ll, so come and crack a beer with the Ginger Kid from Alaska.
Sean:
“Because L.A. is such a car based city, you really do have to battle at times to get your space on the road. This is the one city (besides Anchorage, AK) where I have felt so much hate against you as a cyclist. Shit yelled at you, shit thrown at you, run off the road, alot of hit and runs, cut off, buzzed, etc… But it just makes you a better rider because you’re constantly on your toes, waiting for shit to go down. It’s a battle ground here, and everyday is like going to war on your bike. I love it and would never trade for any other city.
My favorite spot to ride in L.A. is just about anywhere with my homies. Just dipping through gridlocked traffic with your friends is the best. Star fighting around cars, and testing paceline skills, pushing each other to go faster everyday is the best part of riding in LA. If I had to pick on spot though… Griffith Park is amazing, an oasis in the middle of the city.
We have a really diverse bike community here in L.A., and I think that’s great. We have tons of bike events all the time, from huge social rides EVERY night, streets races EVERY weekend, to trick comps by the beach, there is always something going on.”

The Lord of Griffith: The OG Race…

This past Sunday was the third installment of the Lord of Griffith. At the afterparty, we screened this short film we made from the very first LOG. We were there way back when, filming the first one and sponsoring it as well as the next two installments and beyond. Look how easy the racers had it for the first race! The last two years were so much more harder. Sean is a Sadist, in a good way. The brainchild of our rider Sean from TOLA!, the LOG course takes racers through the largest metropolitan park in the USA. Smack in the middle of Los Angeles, Griffith Park provides grueling climbs, technical downhills and a little traffic fighting on surrounding streets. Year after year this race keeps getting bigger and better. We hope to see ya’ll out there next year, we hope to have more out of towners, too! This is another DVD extra feature only available on the DVD. Get hype, it is dropping on 6/21/11!!!
